Use & Safety of MSG

What is MSG?

Monosodium Glutamate is the sodium salt of glutamic acid, a chemical used as a flavour enhancer in many foods, giving it a savoury taste. It gives foods extra taste and is often found in a lot of Asian restaurants and as well as American fast foods.

Glutamate is a naturally occurring amino acid, broken down protein. Meat, fish, chicken, and various dairy products are examples of foods, which are rich in glutamate. Other foods such as soy/oyster/Worcestershire sauces and tomato products are high in glutamate.

Asian restaurants are always high in glutamate, due to the type of food and various sauces they use in their dishes. According to the United States Food and Drug Administration, when exposed to 3g of MSG in the absence of food may have a short term affect on your health.

Despite many rumours of MSG in many foods, mainly with bad side effects with its use. However MSG is one of the most extensively researched substances over 40 years and has been found to be a safe food additive.

SUBWAY! Eat Fresh.

Subway is a fantastic place to have either have breakfast, lunch or dinner. It is fast, healthy, tasty and cheap.
Nothing is fried or high in calories. We wish that they would open up more subway franchises and keep us Australians looking good and healthy.

Have you guys ever noticed that subway doesn't have drive through? So when ever you want to eat at subway, you have to park your car and come inside. This is a great marketing idea not only is the food healthy but the idea of parking your car and walking inside to order instantly at least kills a few calories before you consume one of their tasteful subs.

Not only does Subway cater to those who wants to eat foot longs or 6 inches but it also cater to those who want to eat meat and salad only(salad bowls). The way Subway has laid out their stores from one side to the other has allowed customers to choose their bread, meat and then salads. This has recreated the dimensions of ordering normal normal food into making your own master piece. Only Subway allows you to make your own magnificent customized master piece

Another reason on why Subway is so different is that they care about what we eat by letting us know how many calories we have consumed by literally printing the calories on the serviettes. Do you know any other fast food franchise's that does that? They also provide a different variety of bread which helps digestion or diets. As well as that they also provide low fat sauces which is good for those who are on a diet. Those who are on a diet don't need to stress out on not having sauce in their subs but can now decide what type of sauces to have from their many ranges or low fat sauces.

For those of you who have never tried Subway, well let me tell you! You guys are missing out! Go try it today!

5 Foods to stay away from to live a healthy life!

These are the 5 most important food you must avoid if you want to live a healthy lifestyle.  You will be surprised how unhealthy some food may be.

1. Processed Meats-
These include salami, sandwich meat, beacon, hot dog pepperoni and other similar meats. These processed meats have a lot of additives including MSG. And are also high in fat, cholesterol and sodium. A better alternative is just buying a whole chicken, roasting it yourself and cutting it into small pieces ready for a sandwich.

2. Fried Foods-
Fried food contains so many trans fat. It is okay once in a while to have fried food but if you have it too often then chances are you will gain weight and have a bad cholesterol. Fried food for example potato chips or doughnuts are not very healthy as it is fried in oil and sometimes these oils are being re used a lot of times. If you guys ever crave fried food why don't you just bake them. Baking is a healthier alternative and it doesn't involve and oil.

3. Refined Grains-
Stay away from foods like pasta, bread, rice and some breakfast cereal. These food all contain a high content of carbohydrate which not only make yous gain weight but also make you more hungry faster. A better alternative is brown rice, whole wheat pasta or bread with oatmeal in it. And for those of you who are on a special diet and needs to eat carbohydrates, there are also good carbohydrates that you can gain from eating vegetables such as sweet potato.

4. Alcohol
Alcohol is a depressant and it does not give you any nutrients at all other than empty calories. However drinking too much gives you liver problems. It can also bloat you up. Alcohol can be consumed once in a while at every special occasion how ever everyday is a no no as it bad for liver.

 5. Diary
You may have heard that milk is really good for your bones however milk is full of fat and so is cheese. Thee items contain a lot of calories, cholesterol and unhealthy fats. For those of who who really love milk and cheese a better alternative is buying skim milk ad lite cheese.

Overall, not everyone is perfect, not everyone can avoid these unhealthy foods. However there are other alternatives little changes that can help the future of your health. Other tips for staying healthy is swapping a bad meal for a good. For example if you have 6 small meals a day and all six are full of fat and high in calories, You can swap 3 meals for a healthier alternative meal such as salad, roast chicken and fruit salad.

Eating regularly every 3 to 4 hours is healthy as it keeps the metabolism running. It also burns the food you have eaten instead of storing it as fat. This also helps binge eating or stress eating in a later stage. Eating regularly is not an excuse but help you guys go out side and inhale a little bit of fresh air.

Make sure you lay off the energy drinks as it contains a lot of sugar. Also keep the coffee to a minimum as it just keeps you awake, tricks your body by telling it that your not hungry and it also doesn't help out with your energy level. Another alternative to coffee is green tea, it does the same thing coffee does but it is a healthier alternative as it is an anti oxidant. The best alternative to all these drinks is water. Healthy Franchises- Grill'd

For a restaurant that provides generous servings and tasty food, the first thing that comes to mind is probably Harry's Cafe de Wheels or McDonalds. And both do satisfy the above description. However, one specific category which they struggle to achieve is the freshness and healthiness in their meals. Grill'd is a relatively new franchise which is sure to fill your stomach due to their large serves, and is bound to be scoffed down due to the unique taste of their burgers. However, the most intriguing aspect of Grill'd is how fresh and healthy their menu is.

With a mission statement as simple as: 'to make burgers good', Grill'd has achieved this feat with ease. With a stark rise to popularity due to the high nutritional value in their burgers, this franchise is now a favourite amongst many age groups due to its universal appeal. Tasty, healthy, fresh, big, filling. These are the things people want to take out of a restaurant with them, and hence Grill'd has been a major success.

My favourite dish from Grill'd would have to be the 'Simon Says', which consists of grilled chicken breast, avocado, crispy trim bacon, salad, relish and herbed mayo. This resonates with everything I enjoy in a burger, and is a 'fan favourite' amongst many Grill'd consumers. The freshly made hot chips too add another dimension to the meal as a whole, and are the icing on the cake in such a healthy franchise. I believe Grill'd is destined for more success, due to their extensive menu and since their ideals about how burgers were traditionally made should return now is being instilled.
